Thanks man. It sounds like a blessing and a curse. I would want it to protect my music, but I don't want it anywhere near my video stuff (software and hardware).

DRM is why I can't play a BluRay movie on my laptop and use the HDMI connector to display it on my HDTV simultaneously.

DRM is why your BluRay player's component outputs are only giving you a 480p image (it was never a technical limitation). What if your TV only has component or DVI and not HDMI? Too bad for you.

DRM is why you can't record something with a DVR and archive it to a file or disc without downgrading it first. (Yes, there are Linux solutions that skirt the issue, but even they have trouble if DRM is in the stream.)

DRM is why some DVD/BluRay discs come with a "digital copy." Er...the original, full-resolution copy was already digital. They just don't want you distributing that copy so it's loaded with DRM.

DRM serves the copyright holder but not the consumer. The owner of the copyright wants you to pay for each device that you desire to consume the content. Some of them even want you to pay EACH TIME you consume the content. DRM is the method of restricting use. It's evil and it's at the core of everything now.

As far as I know, the only reason HDMI exists is for better DRM support. I don't know why you would ever need it for content creation (unless that is your only connector available).
